📝 2026 So Far

It hasn't been an excellent year

Hey, it's been a while. I'm calling this an early wrap up because, honestly, 2026 hasn't been an excellent year, and I'd rather write it down than pretend otherwise.

Wang Fuk Court

It started, in a way, with the Wang Fuk Court fire back in Hong Kong, the city I was born in. It happened on Nov. 26, 2025, so technically it belongs to the end of last year, but it set the tone for everything after. 168 people died and thousands lost their homes. It's hard to read about a place you come from going through something like that.

Dovey

Then our cat Dovey got sick. He stopped moving around, and for a bit we thought we'd be saying goodbye. You can read the whole story here. He pulled through, and I'm still grateful to everyone who helped.

Saying goodbye to my grandfather

And then I had to say goodbye to my grandfather. I don't have much to say here, except that I miss him and I'm glad I got to be his grandson.

What this year taught me

It's been rough, but it also taught me more than a smooth year would have. I understand now how fast things can change and how little is guaranteed. I get why people say to call family and say the thing you've been putting off. I learned that being kind matters most when everything feels heavy, and that you're allowed to be sad and still keep going.

Something positive

It hasn't been all bad. Dovey is home and healthy, I got to see family, I'm restoring a Macintosh SE, and this site keeps growing. There's still a lot of the year left, and I'm going into it a little wiser and a lot more thankful for the people and the cat I have.
